Mike Oldfield - New Studio Album Out Soon

As some of you might know, Mike Oldfield finished recording his new studio album at the end of June. So far not a title nor a release date have been provided yet.

What is known already is that the album in question has Lee and ace drummer John “J.R.” Robinson playing the rhythm section and that it was recorded in London and Los Angeles (at the Village Recorders) with the inclusion of a gospel choir. Other musicians on the project are Matt Rollings (keyboards) and Michael Thompson (guitar).

The album, produced by Steve Lipson, should be the next Mike Oldfield release after the recent September 2 reissues of his 1982-83 albums “Five Miles Out” (in CD/DVD, Deluxe and box set formats) and “Crises” (a five CD box set).

Please do check back with us for updates and a relative detailed entry. You may check out Mr. Oldfield’s website for more info, updates, media content and suggestions by clicking the following link:

Herb Pedersen’s “Southwest” and “Sandman” Albums On One CD

Several months ago John Delgatto’s Sierra Records had news of a possible upcoming compact disc release of Herb Pedersen’s two Epic Records albums from the mid 1970s, “Southwest” and “Sandman”.

Both albums feature Lee as the main bass player and are now being released for the first time on one CD. According to Sierra Records, Herb Pedersen’s 1976 debut album “Southwest” was released on compact disc both in Europe and in Japan some years ago but was only available for a short time, at a rather high price, and sold out fast. Follow up album “Sandman” had an even more limited release on compact disc (South Korea). This double reissue comes now with new liner notes by Herb Pedersen and was transferred from the original master analog tapes using the latest 32 bit/192hz mastering.

“Southwest” and “Sandman” include guest appearances by Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Lowell George, Johnny Rivers, Larry Carlton, David Lindley, Al Perkins and many more.

Sierra Records is exclusively offering this CD on a pre-release, advance order with payment now at a special price until the official release on October 15, 2013. Special offer is good only until October 1, 2013. To place your order directly at the Sierra Records website you may go to the Sierra Records Mail Order website and select the top left side menu “Fall Sale” under “Fall Special”.

“Let us now praise famous men, and our fathers that begat us. The Lord hath wrought great glory by them through His great power from the beginning. Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, men renowned for their power, giving counsel by their understanding, and declaring prophesies: Leaders of the people by their counsels, and by their knowledge of learning meet for the people, wise and eloquent in their instructions: Such as found out musical tunes, and recited verses in writing: Rich men furnished with ability living peaceably in their habitations: All these were honored in their generations, and were the glory of their times. There be of them, that have left a name behind them, that their praises might be reported. And some there be which have no memorial; who perished, as though they had never been; and are become as though they had never been born; and their children after them. But these were merciful men, whose righteousness hath not been forgotten. With their seed shall continually remain a good inheritance, and their children are within the covenant. Their seed standeth fast, and their children for their sakes. Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore. // Apocrypha 44-1”.

“I am about to embark on one of the most important projects of my entire career. And that is to re-introduce you to Regina Belle. You and I are well aware of just who this marvelously talented lady is from music endeavors, but have no idea as to what you’re in store for now! Many thanks to Ma and Pa Belle for creating and nurturing what will become, if not already, one of music’s most complete performers. God-given talent, along with dedication, perseverance, luck, education and, most of all, a PASSION for life is what you are about to hear. Yes, a night spent at Rutgers University with Mtume and hearing a young lady sing about eight bars of “Lift Every Voice And Sing” was enough for my ears. Then a conversation with Blue Lovett (of the Manhattans), who at that time was looking for a female singer to accompany the group on a tour, led to an audition and the hiring of Regina. And the rest is what history is made of. Mtume, Blue and myself, along with many others, may have something to do with Regina’s beginning, but make no mistake - 98% of the credit goes to the lady herself, who spent the time studying the masters of music (Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn, Johnny Hartman, Donny Hathaway, Bessie Smith, Cannonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Nancy Wilson and others). The person who spent many, many nights in clubs honing her craft was at the same time observing the theory of music classics, obviously with an intense PASSION. “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” (with Peabo Bryson from the motion picture Aladdin). It’s now time for you to experience Regina Belle’s PASSION: PASSION is a feeling; PASSION is a necessity of life; and PASSION is “If I Could”; PASSION is “My Man” (Billie Holliday’s classic); “Dream In Color”; “The Deeper I Love.” Now experience Regina Belle’s PASSION. // Vaughn Harper”.

“PSALMS 44:8 // In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name forever. Selah. // To my husband who has changed my life totally and has filled my greatest gaps to infinite joy and great cheer (I love you). To my children Jaylin and Tiy whom I love dearly, although you are very young and do not fully understand all of my (Mommy’s) responsibilities that may take me away from you, Shukran (Arabic for thanks) for loving me anyway. Grow up to be something wonderful and remember Mommy & Dad are always there to help and guide. // To my Mom and Dad, you are truly the greatest part of my foundation. Thanks for believing in me to do the right thing and trusting me to go all the way with it (the music). // Both my grandmother and grandfather, Fred Belle Sr. & Viola, thank you for the constant and unconditional love that you have always given me. I know that through your eyes I am still and will always (only) be Gina. To my other grandmother, Mama Gracie, you are a spirit not known to man. You are surely the mirror of strength that I could only pray to be. // To my brother, nobody could ever be more proud of you (except Dad & Mom). Remember to take charge of your life in every aspect. I’m very happy to be your big sister. Could I borrow some money? // To my sista Toy, no one knows that when we’re together you are really the star. Thanks for always looking out for me. // To my new family, the Battles and the Jacksons, thank you for your continued support. Winter, continue to strive and I’ll be there to help. Aunt Marva you know you’re my girl. To my entire family, some names I may not have mentioned, I love you dearly. // To my pastor Rev. Fred Belle and my church with the Friendly Heart-Friendship Baptist Church, thanks for instilling in me that Jesus is Worthy and He is surely real. // Mervyn Dash (Unka Merv), you said this is the one. Show me so I won’t give up my day gig! Brenda, Miss In-house, what time is your flight? Are your nails done? Did you wash your hair? And for God’s sake make sure you get enough sleep! You two guys are the hottest ticket in management! // Jeff, Pauly & Sully, nobody does it better. Understanding Sound is the essence of your being. Mark Minchello, Glen Pearson, Mike Hogan, Karl McNeill, Willard Dyson, who make up the “Absolute Truth,” please never divorce me. I am truly grateful to you always for your undisputed loyalty. // Chris Walker, I believe you’re trying to do it! Marc Daniels, I always knew you did hair for the CIA. Donyale McRae, I dub you Mr. Transformation. And to Billy Belle, Battle & Lovett, your triple alias always did and always will have a place in my heart. You too, Craig Starks. // Ruth carson, thank God for you! BET let’s do it again. To Black radio & retail, who loves ya baby? Thanks for staying with me on the last album, don’t leave me now. Oscar Cohen, Jody Wenig & the ABC family, I don’t ever wanna leave you guys and you say you love me, so can I have two million dollars in prove-it-to-me money? // Shirley Murdock, you’ve always made me come to reason with whomever or whatever I was toiling with. Don’t you ever have a problem? Miki Howard, Donna Allen, hang in there girls. Nick Martinelli, I ate the cheese bitch and what a wonderful project it turned out to be. Narada, it’s all about “One Love.” James Carmichael, thanks for the aid in bringing out “My Man.” // To all of the musicians & vocal musicians on this album, what can I say, I only work with the best. To my “Sangers,” the Blackgrounds, Cha-Cha-Sweet Charlene, Marvelous Marvel, P for Paula and Brent the Wonder, thanks for making me look so good. // And also thanks to Donnie Ienner, Tommy Mottola, Jay Landers (my favorite and best fighting partner. 5 - Where Is My Friend

6 - And I Love You So

8 - Where Is The Love
9 - Hit The Road, Jack
10 - The Last Blues Song

Notes: 1) Album does not come with musician credits. However, in an interview at www.musiciansfriend.com Lee himself mentions how he was the bass player on the #1 title track single. 2) On the May 5, 1973 issue of Billboard magazine, editor Nat Freedland interviews producer Jay Senter and keyboardist Mike Melvoin about the session musicians on the “I Am Woman” single. Lee is mentioned as the bass player on the track. You can find the interview, which appeared on the “Creative Trends” column, searching for Billboard magazine at books.google.com. 3) The 2002 6-CD Anthology box-set “Capitol Records Sixtieth Anniversary - 1942-2002” (Capitol CDP 7243 5 39302 2) includes the single “I Am Woman” and a list of musician credits for the same track, which you can find below. The notes in the anthology define the track as “Original short version from the Columbia motion picture “Stand Up And Be Counted” (1972)”. Please note that the version in question is exactly the same as included in the “I Am Woman” record album. Also, anthology notes mention previous version of same song, which was included on the Helen Reddy album “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” (1971): no personnel credits for this latter album are available, neither from original vinyl release nor from Australian CD reissue (see Helen Reddy entry above). 4) Album was reissued in 2005 for the Australian market by Raven Records as a 2-album single CD on Raven RVCD-168. Reissue also contains Ms. Reddy’s subsequent album “Long Hard Climb” and two previously released bonus tracks from the “Live In London” album, “This Masquerade” and “The West Wind Circus”. 5) Australian CD reissue does not come with musician credits.

Notes: 1) Album does not come with musician credits. In the following wikipedia article it is however described how track 4 was recorded during the same “I Am Woman” tracking session. No source for this info is clearly mentioned so make of it what you will. It remains to be seen whether the whole description is a matter of inference given the sharing of same producer (Jay Senter) on both tracks. 2) Album was reissued in 2005 for the Australian market by Raven Records as a 2-album single CD on Raven RVCD-168. Reissue also contains Ms. Reddy’s previous album “I Am Woman” and two previously released bonus tracks from the “Live In London” album, “This Masquerade” and “The West Wind Circus”. 3) Australian CD reissue does not come with musician credits.
