Your success is so well deserved. // Lionel Richie: you are such a class act. Thank you for 11 years of cheerleading that has meant a lot to me. // All my love to Cynthia, Brandon, Lucas and Jesse. “This album is certainly not a solo record. It took many people to see it to fruition. The great musicians and singers and orchestrators I was lucky enough to work with, the sound engineers who captured and mixed our performances, my A&R man and the EMI Records family who encouraged me to see this vision realized, and my manager who helped tremendously with the songs and every aspect of the recording of this music. // My respect and gratitude to all of them. Their names are listed below (each one should be printed in gigantic letters, but unfortunately space only allows for 7 point type).”.

“The EMI Family // Brian Koppelman, Charles Koppelman, Davitt Sigerson, Theresa Santisi, Laura Kuntz, Jayne Grodd, Dane Venable, Etoile Shapiro, Frances Pennington, Alison Bandier, Peter Napoliello and his entire staff, Adam Sexton, Helmut Fest, Ewrin Bach, Helmut Rucker, Marco Quirini, Birgit Rabs, Manuela Kohn, J.F. Cecillion, Aaron Moore, Mickey Soliani, and all of the EMI family in the U.S., Europe and the Pacific Rim (I wish there were space to name each of you individually) for believing in my music and working so hard to get it out into the world -- thank you.”.

2 - Picture Postcards From L.A.
3 - Beautiful In My Eyes
4 - Carolina’s Eyes
5 - Painted Desert Serenade
6 - Invisible Man
7 - All I’ll Ever Ask
8 - Begging For Grace (Dragonfly Wings)

11 - Waiting In Green Velvet*
12 - Amsterdam*

13 - El Diablo Amor
14 - Rosie And Pauly*
15 - My Father’s Son
16 - Saxophone Woman

Notes: 1) This is a CD compilation of tracks taken from some of Joshua Kadison’s CD albums and singles. 2) Above picture and following credits were taken from the EU CD release. According to web sources, catalog #s for US and EU releases are the same. 3) CD does not come with track-by-track musician credits. I have listed Lee as the bass player for those tracks taken from the “Delilah Blue” CD album. For complete musician credits for these tracks please see relative entry above. 4) The selections of this compilation were taken from the following releases: “Painted Desert Serenade” CD album (2, 3, 5, 6). “Jessie” 4-track Cd single (1, 7). “Delilah Blue” CD album (10, 11, 12, 14). “Vanishing America” CD album (4, 8, 13, 15). 5) The radio edit of “Delilah Blue” included in this compilation is substantially different from the CD album version, clocking in at 4:12 as opposed to the original 9:45. These are the main differences: a) Piano intro has been reduced from 8-bar to 2-bar. b) Mid-section of 1st stanza has been edited out. c) 2nd stanza has been edited out. d) 2nd half of 3rd stanza has been edited out but for the closing line. e) 2nd chorus, 4th and 5th stanzas have been edited out. f) Some lines of the last two verses in the closing double-chorus have been edited out . 6) Track 16 was recorded during the “Delilah Blue” period but not included in that CD album. No musician credits are available for this song. 7) Apparently, there exists a 17-track version of this compilation including the song “American Hearts”, which was originally issued only as part of the “Take It On Faith” CD single and, later, included in the 1999 EU “Premium Gold Collection” anthology on EMI 7243 5 22685 2 8. Indeed, the liner notes for this 16-track anthology say that the compilation “offers 17 of his best songs”. See below entry for details about this specific track.

Joshua Kadison - Vocals, Piano
Leland Sklar - Bass (9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16?)*

1 - Take It On Faith*
2 - American Hearts - previously unreleased
3 - The Pearl*

Notes: 1) This is a EU CD single including two songs from the “Delilah Blue” CD album and one previously unreleased song (track 2). 2) Track 2 shares same production credits with the “Delilah Blue” CD album but was not included therein. No musician credits are available for this song. 3) CD single does not come with track-by-track musician credits. I have listed Lee as the bass player for those tracks taken from the “Delilah Blue” CD album. For complete musician credits for these tracks please see relative entry above. 4) Track 2 was later included in the 1999 EU “Premium Gold Collection” anthology on EMI 7243 5 22685 2 8. Song was also, apparently, included on a 17-track version of the “Essential Joshua Kadison” compilation (see entry above). 5) I have no knowledge about whether this single was released with same material also on the US market.

Notes: 1) CD was released in Japan with slightly different cover art lettering and one bonus track. For some reason, Japan issue mentions 2001 as year of release. 2) Following credits were taken both from Japan and US CD releases on A&M. 3) CD was re-released with partially different track content as “Hello Lisa” (see entry below). 4) Since only one location is mentioned as being a ‘recording’ location and all the others are indicated as ‘engineering’ locations, the ‘recording studios’ header groups both engineering locations and recording locations. 5) As a rule for this blog, whenever technical details are amiss it is generally due to their actual absence from the credits/liner notes they are being taken from. This is the case for some mixing locations that were not mentioned in the credits.

Anthologies

“The Very Best Of Lisa Loeb” - US CD - front inlay

Notes about “The Very Best of Lisa Loeb”: 1) Of this compilation I own the US edition and it comes with no new Lee track on it. This US collection comes with liner notes by Ms. Loeb. You can find some enlargements of these notes for those tracks with Lee as a player at the bottom of this post. 2) I still have to check out the Japan release of this anthology. According to web sources, it comes with an alternate selection of songs and one bonus track by the title “Koi No Arashi”. A web search indicates this track as being the English-lyrics version of a Mariya Takeuchi song. It also figures that this same version was probably already included in the 2002 CD album tribute “Sincerely… Mariya Takeuchi Songbook” with the title “Love Storm”. My web researches show that Lee should not be a player on it. About the other substituted songs: the only one with Lee on it is “Someone You Should Know”. It is probable that all of these substituted songs should come in their CD album versions. However, take the “shoulds” with a pinch of salt and check back for a further update. Thanks!

Recording my songs and putting together this body of work has helped me grow not only as an artist but more importantly as a woman.
