2 - A Little Lovin’*

Notes: 1) The song “A Little Lovin’” was released as a single in 1974 with the previously unreleased track “Lightning Ridge” as a b-side. Please note that the arrangement of “Lightning Ridge” does not include a rhythm section - or at least does not seem to, judging from the very scratchy, worn-out 45 in my possession... 2) The “Lightning Ridge” title appeared misspelled in some pressings as “Lightning Ride”, specifically in the UK-pressed US release. For more discussions about this particular item you can check out the relative entry at http://www.45cat.com/record/2058434 . 3) Two more b-side tracks from this period are “Brighton” - that later got included in the 1976 anthology “Laughter And Tears” - and “Kiddio”. Just as with “Lightning Ridge”, neither of these two songs does include a rhythm section in its arrangement.

“Neil is proud of his past but he’s even prouder of what he’s doing now. And so he should be - this album contains some of his best work ever. Listen to songs like “Solitaire,” and “Laughter in the Rain,” then you’ll see what I mean. We at Rocket Records have been given the privilege of releasing these tracks, which are a compilation of Neil’s hit albums in Great Britain. If you watch the charts in the next few months you’ll see that even though he’s never been away - SEDAKA’S BACK // Elton John”.

Notes: 1) This is the US release of the Neil Sedaka LP “Overnight Success” (see entry above). This release has two substituted songs and a different title. 2) US CD reissue contains as bonus: one track taken from the “Laughter In The Rain” album (track 14); the two substituted songs from the “Overnight Success” album (tracks 13, 15); the song “Hey Mister Sunshine” (track 12) previously released as b-side of the single “The Immigrant”. 3) Above picture was taken from original US LP release. Following musician credits were taken both from original US LP release and CD reissue. 4) As usual, the only musicians credited herein with respective track numbers are Lee and the other members of the rhythm section: this is extended to the CD reissue bonus tracks. 5) Additional musician credits with respective track number for the other players besides Lee and the rhythm section are only specified in the case of the CD reissue bonus tracks. The musician credits for these bonus tracks were taken from the original sources the songs are coming from, that is the UK LPs, regardless of the CD reissue credit notes. 6) Although, as noted, this LP and “Overnight Success” have 9 songs in common (same takes), there appear to be discrepancies in the personnel listings for these shared songs between the US and the UK releases. The US CD reissue does not take this detail into consideration, and adopts the same incomplete credits as the US LP release, the only exception being mentioning Elton John as background vocalist for track 4. Jim Keltner, who according to the “Overnight Success” credits plays South American percussion on (bonus) track 13, is not mentioned in the CD reissue notes. 7) US CD reissue comes with liner notes by Don Charles. Please refer to original inlay card for these. 8) A b-side track from this period is “Nana's Song’”. Just as with some of the b-sides from 1974 (see the “Laughter In The Rain’” entry above) this song does not include a rhythm section in its arrangement.
