Notes: 1) “To Love Again” is a Diana Ross 1981 part-anthology/part-new material LP. It was re-released as an extended CD in 2003 with 11 added tracks and some substitutions in the Seventies content (see note #4). 2) The original “To Love Again” LP comprises, on side one, of the 1980 hit single “It’s My Turn” - which had been previously released also on an Original Soundtrack LP on Motown 947 - plus three more new tracks. On side two we find instead a selection of 5 hit songs from Ms. Ross’ Seventies solo catalog. This concept, translated into informational content, appears to have made for a rather confusing case of cover notes: on the original LP the musician credits are supplied only for side one, while arranger/producer credits are given for both sides. According to these LP credits, all of side one (including “To Love Again“) has Lee as bass player. Please note that, even if I did not report it in the following breakdown (as usual I stick to Lee and rhythm section), these same LP credits specify that backing vocalists were NOT singing on the “To Love Again” track. On the other hand, the CD reissue comes with musician credits ONLY for tracks 2, 3 and 4, making it appear as if none of the musicians listed - including Lee - played on the “It’s My Turn” single. If this were true, why didn’t these musicians get excluded from the LP credits for “It’s My Turn” just as the backing vocalists were? Moreover, a number of misnomers was not corrected in the transition from LP to CD repackaging. This might be a clue that the original LP credits have remained basically unchecked, and that the correction about the “It’s My Turn” credits is only the result of a misinterpretation of these original credits as communicated through the LP graphics. In any case, I have stuck to the original LP credits attribution even in the CD listing. 3) According to web sources (pictures) no session players credits are included in the “It’s My Turn” Original Soundtrack Album on Motown 947. 4) The only substitution in the Seventies content shared between LP and CD re-release is track 9, which in the previously unreleased single mix has at least a ten-bar longer fadeout. More detailed info about all the previously unreleased tracks is indicated in the ‘CD Reissue Additional Credits’ section below. 5) Any discrepancy between the spelling of titles from LP to reissue track listing is strictly adherent to sources. 6) Above picture is of original US LP. Following credits are taken both from original US LP and CD reissue. 7) This being a hybrid anthology coming with technical credits only for the new and/or previously unreleased tracks, please do refer to the original source albums for more detailed tech credits altogether. 8) While the Original Soundtrack Album for the film “Mahogany” (1975) does not come with any credits related to the session musicians involved, it is a fact that Lee participated to the recording of that film’s soundtrack and specifically to those sessions pertaining to the “Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” single. The drummer playing alongside with Lee in this occasion would be Hal Blaine. Please check back for further additions about this and see picture below.

Notes: 1) “The Force Behind The Power” was originally issued as a 10-track LP. According to web sources, the CD release already came with the bonus track “If We Hold On Together”. A third CD release of “The Force Behind The Power” adds two more bonus tracks to the content: “You And I” and the 1991 single “No Matter What You Do”. This is the issue the following credits were partially taken from. 2) For the “You And I” and “No Matter What You Do” tracks no credits are supplied by the CD notes. 3) The song “If We Hold On Together” was originally included in the movie soundtrack album for the 1988 animation film “The Land Before Time”. So far, I haven’t been able to compare the versions and see if they are one and the same or not. 4) Amongst the various releases of this song as a Diana Ross single there does exist a 2-disc issue including an edit version of the track. Please check the ‘singles’ section below for credits. 5) Above image is of the EU/UK CD. 6) Following credits were taken from both the US LP and the EU/UK CD. 7) The catalog # for the UK release of the EU/UK CD is CDEMD 1023.
