Lee will be the bass player in the all-star house band at the Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert event happening at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 5. Other announced members in the lineup will be Greg Phillinganes (Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton) on keyboards, Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp) on drums, Felicia Collins and Sid McGinnis (Paul Shaffer CBS Orchestra) on guitars, along with keyboardist Boh Cooper, percussionist Taku Hirano, and backing vocalists Jory Steinberg and Trya Juliette.
Musical legends such as Peter Frampton, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Steven Tyler and John Fogerty will come together for the concert along with Spoon, Aloe Blacc, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Brandon Flowers (The Killers), JUANES, Pat Monahan (Train), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), The Roots and Chris Stapleton.
The concert will feature video appearances by Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. Actor Kevin Bacon has been selected as host.
The concert will be taped to air exclusively on AMC on Saturday, December 19 at 9 p.m. ET. A block of $99 tickets have been released and are available via Ticketmaster. A portion of proceeds from the concert will be donated to Robin Hood. Robin Hood, New York's largest poverty-fighting organization, creates and funds over 200 of the most effective programs, to help 1.8 million New Yorkers learn and earn their way out of poverty.

New Jimi Hendrix Biopic “Jimi: All Is By My Side” - Links
American rapper, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and actor André Benjamin is portraying Jimi Hendrix in the new biopic “Jimi: All Is by My Side”. Notes about the original album: 1) The original edition of “Atlantic Crossing” does not come with track-by-track musician credits. This is true also for subsequent CD releases of same material and/or alternate versions recorded during the same sessions. Essentially, these were held all in the US with US musicians, including The MG’s (Dunn, Jackson, Jr., Cropper), The Swampers AKA The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (Hood, Hawkins, Johnson, Beckett), and a whole bunch of L.A. players. According to curator Thane Tierney (“The Rod Stewart Sessions 1971-1998” - see below), the presence of keyboardist Booker T. Jones during the MG’s recordings could not be determined, and it is a fact that his name is not mentioned in the album credits. However, Stewart himself admits to have been “the last guy to sing with the entire section” (see the essay in the Collector’s Edition), and in his recollection of the occasion, written for the liner notes of the quadruple 1989 “Storyteller” anthology (Warner Bros. 25987-2) he thanks “Steve, Duck, Booker and Al”. 2) In spite of original album artwork suggesting ‘slow side’ as being ‘side one’, lacquer numbers indicate the opposite. 3) No credits for the artwork department were found on the UK pressing I took down the credits from. They were taken from the CD edition. 4) Above image is of original non-gatefold UK LP release.
Notes about the Collector’s Edition: 1) The 2009 2-CD Collector’s Edition includes previously released material plus a whole disc of alternate versions. 2) Track 25 is a different mixdown of track 11. 3) Track 12 (“To Love Somebody”) is a different, orchestral mixdown of same version already appeared on the “Storyteller” anthology, clocking in a few seconds earlier.

Notes about the original album: 1) Again, the original edition of “A Night On The Town” does not come with track-by-track musician credits. This is true also for subsequent CD releases of same material and/or alternate versions recorded during the same sessions. Taking the cue from “Atlantic Crossing”, the album was recorded in the States with a wholly US personnel. The Swampers appear once again only in track 2, a holdover from the previous year’s sessions. 2) ‘Slow side’ is now ‘side one’, and each side of the record cover has been designed as a ‘recto’, with the opening at the top. 3) According to web sources, “A Night On The Town” was the first album released in the UK by Stewart’s manager Billy Gaff’s own record label, Riva Records. US pressings were however issued on Warner Bros. Records BS 2938. 4) Above image is of original US LP release.
Notes about the Collector’s Edition: 1) The 2009 2-CD Collector’s Edition includes previously released material plus a whole disc of alternate versions. 2) Track 22 is an alternate version of a Beatles song that Stewart covered for the “All This And World War Two” soundtrack album. 3) Track 23 is an ‘a cappella’ snippet of the closing chorus for “The Killing Of Georgie (Part I And II)”. 4) Track 24 is the isolated-from-mix voice of Britt Ekland speaking the few lines in French eventually mixed into the “Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright)” fadeout. 5) The original cover art, which is a Mike Bryan re-reading of the Pierre-Auguste Renoir painting “Bal du Moulin de la Galette”, is reproduced with a slightly larger crop than original release. While its inclusion might not be pertinent to the blog, it is still an interesting compilation for a number of reasons, like the Rod Stewart-penned track-by-track liner notes. Also, comparing the songs to their vinyl counterparts and to further digital reissues it does seem these masters sound different. Notes: 1) This is a CD anthology with previously unreleased tracks and versions. Those albums the tracks are taken from are indicated near the song titles. 2) The only album Lee played on that has to do with this anthology’s material is “A Night On The Town”: no credits are available for the two tracks taken from it (“The First Cut Is The Deepest” and “Tonight’s The Night”), nor for any other track on this collection. 3) In spite of what misleadingly indicated in the liner notes, track 9 was not taken from “Atlantic Crossing”. 4) Again, in spite of what misleadingly indicated in the liner notes, the tracks “I Don‘t Want To Talk About It”, “(The) First Cut Is The Deepest” and “Tonight’s The Night” do not appear here in their original album versions. Differences are as follows: a) “I Don’t Want To Talk About It” is actually the new Rod Stewart and Bernard Edwards-produced drums-and-saxophone arrangement that was originally included in the quadruple 1989 “Storyteller” anthology (see above entry). This means that the relative Tom Dowd production credit in the liner notes is a mistake. b) The version of “(The) First Cut Is The Deepest” appears to be a differently equalized re-master with punchier basses and wider stereo positioning of guitars and mandolin. Its harp intro has been deleted and total fade-out has been shortened to about six measures earlier than on original album. c) The Britt Ekland voiceover on the fade-out guitar solo in “Tonight’s The Night” has been mixed out, and track ends some 22 seconds earlier than original. 5) Above picture and following credits were taken from the Canada CD release on Warner Bros. W2 46452. 6) According to web sources two more versions of this collection have been released- One is an international edition which is not inclusive of “So Far Away” but comes with the two additional tracks “Sailing” and “Tom Traubert’s Blues (Waltzing Matilda)”, both previously released. The other is a Japan edition which has the same track list as the international edition but substitutes “Broken Arrow” with the “Your Song” cover from the “Two Rooms” Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album. I have had no way of checking out whether any of this info is true. 7) CD album comes with no musician credits. Please note that its inclusion into this weblog might not be relevant.
