Wolfgang - 1969 Demo Track

Wolfgang, circa 1969 - L to R: Bryn Haworth, Rick Lancelot, Kevin Kelly, Leland Sklar, Randy “Israel” Zacuto, Warren “Bugs” Pemberton

BeardBassman and I were talking the other day and the subject of Wolfgang came up. He explained to me that their guitar player Randy Zacuto had recently found an old reel-to-reel tape of the group and was having it baked in order to make its content playable.

Well, thanks to the joint forces of Mr. Zacuto and BB you may now listen to one of the Wolfgang songs on that tape: you only have to click on the player below. While the titles of these tracks are undisclosed, it is accurate to say that they constitute a previously unreleased (in no form whatsoever) part of the legendary demo tape the band cut in 1969 at Gerry Goffin's studio (now Larrabee). Line-up is as follows:

Leland Sklar - Bass
Warren “Bugs” Pemberton - Drums
Randy “Israel” Zacuto - Guitar
Bryn Haworth - Guitar
Kevin Kelly - Hammond B3
Rick Lancelot - Vocals

  2. Yes indeed, excellent song. Ricky was the male version of Janis Joplin.
Of course, his brief work with Zappa brought me here.
Thanks for the music and info.

  3. Did they use the Sunn 2000s bass amps? I think I own it. It was given to me by a professional musician in L.A.and has a faded out 'WOLFGANG' painted white across the back on the tube cover/guard.

    1. I never recall ever having SUNN gear but it might have been one of the other guys gear. Without seeing it it is hard to know. LS

  4. Wow just wow, really wish you'd be able to post the other songs in the demo.
Leland Sklar has a youtube channel and he played 2 songs of the demo and it was amazing to say the least.
Thank you for posting the song for us to hear!

    1. You're welcome. I'm sure Lee will play all the rest of the demos on his channel sooner or later, so keep following it. Wolfgang were a great group indeed. Cheers!
